Programs
Ours is a small community – 176 students and 32 teachers – and our size allows each of us to enjoy the rewards of belonging to a lively extended family. Students at every level interact with one another through both formal programs (older students read to younger students, and all-school assemblies are held weekly) and informally (during lunch, recess, and school-sponsored events). Our surroundings are warm and hospitable, reminiscent of the private home the school once was. The layout of the school encourages close interaction, with most classes under one roof and shared use of the art room, music room, library, computer room, gymnasiums, and playing fields.“The layout of the school encourages close interaction, with most classes under one roof and shared use of the art room, music room, library, computer room, gymnasiums, and playing fields.”
Parents are an integral part of our school community: they serve as room parents, chaperone on class trips, volunteer at school fund-raisers and community events, and serve as role models when they visit classrooms to share their expertise and life experiences. Events sponsored by the Parents Association, such as the Book Fair, the May Marketplace, and presentations by various visiting speakers, bring the entire Dutchess Day School community together in the spirit of family that is so fundamental to our school.
