Library Resources at DDS
Dutchess Day School’s library is a bright and inviting atmosphere for children to explore, learn and read. Grades kindergarten through fourth take weekly library classes to learn basic library arts skills and find engaging books to check out and take home. Fourth and fifth grades use the library as the center for their Internet research classes, using MacBook laptops to learn appropriate ways to “surf the net”. Upper school students have taken writing classes in the library, as well the computer lab, and utilize the library books and resources to research for various classes including science and history.
Our 11,000 volume collection was automated this summer and is available for electronic searching of resources in Fall 2009. Students have learned how to check a book’s availability, check out and in borrowed books, and see which books they have out. Teaching autonomy in using the library and its resources is our primary goal.
New links will be added to this page throughout the year providing students with additional resources including bibliographic format, our on-line database and websites ideal for student use. The link below has many great resources for children.
