Dutchess Day School 2008 Strategic Planning Committee

Dear Friends of Dutchess Day School,

Attached is our 2008 Strategic Planning Survey. We hope you will be able to find a moment to fill
it out. Your input is very important to the success of this project. We would like to hear from as
many of you as possible; both parents in families are encouraged to respond, if convenient. If
Focus Group participants have additional thoughts, please share them.

Directions: please click on the link below and complete the survey form.
If possible, please return your completed survey by April 15, 2008.

DDS 2008 Strategic Planning Survey

The Strategic Planning process began officially in January of this year with a reassessment of
the School’s Mission Statement and Philosophy by the Strategic Planning Steering Committee
and the Faculty and Staff. Through Focus Groups, held March 25th, and this Survey, our many
constituencies (including current and past parents, faculty/staff, students, alums, Trustees and
Founders) will share their views of the School, the challenges it faces and the goals for which
they feel it should reach over the next three to five years. From these many views and
background research done by the Steering Committee, four or five clearly defined goals will be
determined by a broad-based working group at an all-day retreat on May 17th. The Strategic
Plan will then be crafted over the summer, principally by John Cissel, Head of School,
presented to the Board of Trustees for its approval at the September Board meeting and then
mailed out to the DDS community and posted on the School’s web site. Subsequently, a
number of taskforces will be appointed to develop detailed action plans. These, plus a timeline
and budgets for implementation, will be presented to the Board of Trustees for approval.

Ten years ago DDS did its last Strategic Plan, the recommendations from which had a major
impact on our School. The Endowment was established, the new Gym was built, the playing
fields were created, and significant changes in curriculum, finance, governance and plant were
implemented. We expect the 2008 Strategic Plan will be the catalyst for similar progress in the
years to come.

If you have any questions or comments about this Survey or the Strategic Planning process in
general, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Again, thank you for your participation.
