In grades 5 – 8, students use the skills developed in lower school to investigate a more formal and vigorous curriculum. We use a module system in these grades that covers all major scientific topics in a full middle school science program. In each grade, students will have one or more units in the life, earth, and physical sciences. This curriculum was written with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) 3-dimensional approach in mind and incorporates textbook, digital, and hands-on learning experiences.

The culminating science experience at DDS is a year-long, high school level Environmental Science course. This course represents an opportunity for DDS scientists to apply the content and skills learned in K – 7 science to current and real scientific challenges. Since environmental science incorporates science and engineering across so many diverse disciplines, this focus lends itself well to a rich and robust science class.
