At Dutchess Day School, “community” isn’t just a word—it’s how we live every day. Small, tight-knit, and full of heart, everyone knows everyone, from the youngest learner to our oldest students.
Recently, our 8th graders paired up with 1st graders for a cozy read-aloud - big buddies modeling kindness, patience, and the joy of stories. These moments aren’t special events - they’re everyday magic.
Last Friday’s Annual Airplane Assembly soared to new heights! Every student designed their own paper plane, with classroom champions advancing to the big gym finale. This year, a 7th grader took flight when his plane zoomed over 90 feet, only stopping when it hit the gym wall! Creativity, engineering, and a little bit of aerodynamic magic made it an afternoon to remember.
The stage was alive with talent at our Winter Concert—our Upper School chorus and ensembles brought power, precision, and heart to every piece! From soaring harmonies to dynamic instrumental solos, our student musicians showcased the depth of our music program.
Curious about Dutchess Day School? Join us for our upcoming Open House on January 26 at 9:30 a.m. and see firsthand what makes our community so special—where curiosity thrives, hearts connect, and every child belongs.
The joy of music begins early at DDS! Our Lower School students filled the room with song and spirit at this year’s Winter Concert. From sing-alongs to recorder performances, our youngest musicians are learning to love music- one note at a time. It’s more than performance; it’s confidence, rhythm, and the magic of making music together.
In December, our 5th grade students, alongside Mr. Hall and Mr. Stewart, continued their ongoing partnership with the River Haven Youth Shelter. Students toured the space, learned more about the shelter’s work, and engaged in thoughtful conversation about what it means to build trust, community, and meaningful connections.
As part of this visit, students also shared items generously contributed by grade-level families to support youth staying at the shelter during the holiday season. Experiences like these help students see service as a commitment to understanding, empathy, and sustained partnership.
As the winter lights glow and the halls grow quiet, we’re filled with gratitude for the warmth and energy our students and families bring to Dutchess Day School every day. Wishing everyone a peaceful and joyful holiday season—may it be full of rest, connection, and magic. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back in the new year!
Our second graders brought the holiday spirit to life with their annual gingerbread house decorating extravaganza! Every creation was a sweet masterpiece bursting with creativity. It’s more than just a festive treat—it’s hands-on learning in design, planning, and, of course, sharing the joy.
