Our first graders had a fantastic surprise yesterday, an adorable axolotl visited DDS! This unique aquatic salamander, with its forever-smiling face and feathery gills, captivated the students during their up-close exploration. Big thanks to our teacher’s son for bringing his special pet to share. The kids were full of wonder, asking thoughtful questions and giggling at its slow, swishy movements.
The warmer days are here, and you can feel the energy shift as kids race outside after school, soaking up the sunshine and open air. At DDS, the courtyard is alive with laughter and friendly competition, carpet ball, anyone? There’s something so joyful about these simple moments: warm light, good company, and the satisfying thud of a well-aimed roll.
Our 6th graders are deep in focus, bringing science to life - one tiny organelle at a time! They’re designing and building detailed 3D models of cells, turning creativity into learning. From mitochondria to the nucleus, every piece is a step toward understanding the building blocks of life.
Our first assembly back from spring break was a beautiful treat. We were so honored to host the Millbrook Music Salon, featuring the talented violinist Oliver Neubauer and pianist Sophia Zhou. The students were captivated by the rich sounds and heartfelt performances. It was a joyful reminder of the power of live music to inspire, connect, and uplift. A big thank you to Oliver, Sophia, and the entire Millbrook Music Salon team for sharing your gifts with our school community!
Kindergarten and third grade buddies came together to celebrate Read Across America Day with joy and laughter. Reading, word searches and Dr. Suess themed cartoons using color the number brought the buddies together for an afternoon of fun.
Our 8th graders wrapped up their final winter term at DDS with an unforgettable ski trip filled with snowy adventures, sledding, laughter, games and plenty of hot chocolate. From the slopes to cozy meals and heartfelt moments of bonding, it was the perfect way to close this chapter. So proud of the connections they’ve built and the memories they’re carrying forward.
Huge congratulations to our 4th graders on their fantastic performance of Pirates of Grammar Island last week! They brought creativity, teamwork, and confidence to the stage: nailing their lines, supporting one another, and turning grammar into pure joy. So proud of their hard work and energy!
Our second graders are diving into their study of Native American cultures with respect and curiosity. As part of the unit, each student chose a spirit animal and collaborated on a class totem pole symbolizing their shared identity and values. This hands-on project fosters connection, storytelling, and cultural appreciation, all while honoring the traditions they’re learning about.
