Our fifth-grade students are organizing a bake sale with all proceeds going to the River Haven Youth Shelter. So, grab a delicious treat and cheer on the players while making a difference in the lives of local youth in need.
After school programs at DDS are all about exploration, discovery, and fun! These programs provide our lower school students with a variety of engaging activities that go beyond the traditional classroom setting. Whether they`re diving into art, building towering structures with Lego, or simply enjoying the great outdoors, our kids have the opportunity to learn, grow, and have a blast while doing it.

Our second graders took full advantage of the beautiful weather by engaging in some well-deserved outdoor fun! This delightful afternoon not only provided a much-needed break from indoor learning but also allowed our young students to connect with their environment, build friendships, and create cherished memories together.
Embracing the power of teamwork, our 7th graders recently participated in a meaningful activity that beautifully symbolized the importance of individuality and collaboration. Each student decorated a puzzle piece to represent their unique selves, and then worked to piece them all together. The challenge of figuring out how their individual pieces fit together as a whole required patience, communication, and problem-solving skills, but ultimately, the puzzle showed their collective strength and unity.
At DDS, we believe that creativity knows no age limit! Even our littlest Tigers have the chance to unleash their imaginations in the art room, where they can paint, create, and express themselves freely. By nurturing their artistic talents from an early age, we`re setting the stage for a lifetime of creativity, self-expression, and innovation.
Our 2nd-grade students have been getting creative and personal by designing their very own name tags! These unique tags will serve as a special way for them to display their work and accomplishments throughout the year. Not only does this activity encourage self-expression and pride in their achievements, but it also helps to create a strong sense of identity and belonging within the classroom community.
Recess at DDS isn`t just a break from the classroom—it`s an essential part of our students` daily routine! During recess, our Tigers head outside to play, connect, and recharge. This time outdoors not only promotes physical activity and fresh air, but also encourages social interaction and emotional well-being. Whether they`re running around on the playground, engaging in a game of tag, or simply chatting with friends, our students make the most of this cherished break, returning to class with renewed energy and focus.
Our fifth-grade students have been delving into the fascinating world of Ancient Israel. To demonstrate their understanding and engage in collaborative learning, they teamed up to create informative slideshows. This project not only allowed them to consolidate their knowledge but also provided an opportunity to develop essential communication and presentation skills. By teaching others about Ancient Israel through their slides, these students are solidifying their own understanding and cultivating a passion for sharing historical insights with their peers.
In 7th grade, we`re embarking on an exciting journey into the world of nature journaling! This hands-on learning experience allows our students to delve deeper into their surroundings, recording both data and metadata to gain a comprehensive understanding of the natural world. By creating observational drawings, they are not only honing their artistic skills, but also developing a keen eye for detail and an appreciation for the intricacies of nature. This engaging approach to learning fosters a sense of curiosity and connection with the environment that will serve our students well in their future endeavors.
We feel truly blessed to have such an amazing group of families at DDS, who contribute so much to our thriving community. Our dedicated Parent Association officers deserve special recognition for their tireless efforts in planning and organizing a variety of events throughout the year. These events bring our entire community together, fostering a strong sense of belonging and camaraderie.
In the Design and Innovation Lab, students are embarking on an exciting journey into the world of creative design! By mastering the art of vector tools, these budding designers are developing the skills they`ll need to create stunning visual elements, logos, illustrations, and more. This foundation in vector graphics will lay the groundwork for more advanced design techniques as they continue to explore their creative potential.
Fall has arrived at the DDS campus!
Teamwork and cooperation are in full swing as our 7th-grade students delve into the fascinating world of subatomic particles and Bohr diagrams. By working together, these budding scientists are able to pool their knowledge, tackle complex concepts, and deepen their understanding of the building blocks of matter. This collaborative approach not only fosters a strong sense of community in the classroom but also equips our students with essential problem-solving and communication skills for their future endeavors.
Our upper school students are encouraged to take ownership of their education. By incorporating several periods a week dedicated to small-group work, students have the opportunity to engage with their teachers in a more intimate setting. This collaborative environment not only fosters deeper understanding of the subject matter, but also empowers students to develop the self-directed learning skills that will serve them well throughout their academic careers and beyond.
Our talented sixth-grade students are kicking off the year by diving headfirst into their annual musical production, upholding a beloved tradition at our school. Every year, the fourth, sixth, and eighth-grade classes put on fantastic shows, and we can`t wait to see what this year`s performance has in store. Break a leg, sixth graders!
